According to the new study, reduced loneliness has something to do with doing enjoyable activities that require both concentration and skill.

“When people are absorbed in (全神貫注于) what they are doing, they enter a state called ‘flow’,” Dattilo explained. “Flow can be achieved by doing activities that we value and that require us to concentrate fully to use our skills.” 

科學(xué)家Dattilo 解釋說:“當(dāng)人們?nèi)褙炞⒂谒麄兪稚险谧龅氖�,能夠進(jìn)入一種叫做‘心流’的狀態(tài)。怎么達(dá)到這種狀態(tài)?做一些我們喜歡,需要專注力和一些技能才能完成的事情。”

 

To achieve a state of flow, there must be a balance between the challenge of the task and your skill level. For example, if you’re trying to create a complex computer program but your skill level is low, then you’re likely to feel stressed instead of achieving flow. On the contrary, if the task is too easy, then boredom will set in and flow will not appear, either.
要想達(dá)到心流的狀態(tài),你必須在任務(wù)的難度和你的能力中找到平衡點(diǎn)。若任務(wù)太難,你的水平又無法達(dá)到,反而會(huì)使你有壓力。相反,如果任務(wù)太簡單,讓你感到無聊,心流也不會(huì)出現(xiàn)。

 

“When we enter a state of flow, we become absorbed and focused, and we experience momentary (片刻的) enjoyment,” Dattilo said. “When we leave a state of flow, we are often surprised by how much time has passed.”

Dattilo 說:“進(jìn)入心流狀態(tài)時(shí),我們專注地做著一件事,而且很享受這個(gè)過程。做完后會(huì)很驚訝時(shí)間竟然過得這么快。”

However, watching television usually doesn’t help people enter flow, according to Dattilo, because there aren’t any challenges.

“Loneliness is very connected to our health,” Dattilo explained. “Psychological, emotional, and cognitive (認(rèn)知的) health are all challenged when people are lonely. Loneliness is associated with depression and other mental health challenges.”
