7月12日6時(shí)38分，河北省唐山市古冶區(qū)發(fā)生5.1級(jí)地震，河北省人民政府已啟動(dòng)三級(jí)應(yīng)急響應(yīng)。

The 5.1 magnitude quake struck at a depth of 10 kilometers, the Ministry of Emergency Management said. The Guye district is about 170 km southeast of Beijing and around 130 km northeast of Tianjin. No casualties or serious damage were reported as of Sunday night after the quake, Tangshan's publicity department said.

應(yīng)急管理部表示，此次地震震源深度10千米，震中古冶區(qū)位于北京市東南部170公里、天津市東北處約130公里處。唐山市宣傳部門表示，截至7月12日晚，沒有接到人員傷亡及嚴(yán)重?fù)p失報(bào)告。

【知識(shí)點(diǎn)】

地震的強(qiáng)度（magnitude）一般按照里氏震級(jí)（Richter Scale）劃分，它是將震級(jí)范圍從1到10的一種對(duì)數(shù)標(biāo)度，用以表現(xiàn)地震放出的能量總數(shù)，是根據(jù)美國地震學(xué)家Charles Francis Richter 命名的。

在英文報(bào)道中，“X級(jí)地震”常用X on the Richter Scale、magnitude-X earthquake或者上文中出現(xiàn)的 a X magnitude earthquake/quake表示，比如：

The tremor was placed at 5.6 on the Richter scale.

地震的震級(jí)被測定為里氏5.6級(jí)。

A powerful magnitude-7.6 earthquake struck off the Solomon Islands on Monday.

周一，所羅門群島發(fā)生了里氏7.6級(jí)地震。

該地震造成河北唐山市中心震感強(qiáng)烈，天津、河北承德震感明顯，北京、河北廊坊、滄州等地有震感（feel the tremor）。

中國地震臺(tái)網(wǎng)中心副主任、研究員劉杰表示：

The 5.1 magnitude quake on Sunday was an aftershock of the 1976 one, and another quake of more than 5 magnitude was unlikely to occur in the area in the short term.

唐山本次地震屬1976年地震余震，短期內(nèi)老震區(qū)再次發(fā)生5級(jí)以上地震的可能不大。

He said the epicenter of Sunday's quake was 28 km from the epicenter of the 1976 quake, well within the aftershock zone, and was considered a normal fluctuation.

這次5.1級(jí)地震的震中距離唐山1976年主震約28千米，位于其余震區(qū)內(nèi)，是正常的地震起伏活動(dòng)。

The energy accumulation of Tangshan's earthquake in 1976 took thousands of years, so it's a normal phenomenon that the aftershocks of the quake can last for dozens of years. The frequency and magnitude of aftershocks of earthquakes will decrease with time.

唐山1976年地震的能量積聚用了數(shù)千年的時(shí)間，因此其余震持續(xù)數(shù)十年是正�，F(xiàn)象。余震的頻率和強(qiáng)度會(huì)隨著時(shí)間衰減。
